New Producer Drops: Plugins, Gear & DAW Updates

Illformed's Glitch2 just went permanently free, released in memory of its creator Kieran Foster. If you've never touched it, it's a multi-effects plugin built for glitch and stutter work - gated buffers, bit crushing, granular chopping, the kind of texture that turns a plain loop into something that sounds broken on purpose. Worth grabbing even if you only use it once a project, because there's nothing else quite like it.

Native Instruments dropped FM8 to $10 at Plugin Boutique, which is close to a giveaway for a synth that still holds up for metallic leads, bells, and aggressive bass layers. FM synthesis has a learning curve, but at that price it's worth having in the toolkit even if you only use two or three presets as a starting point for sound design.

On the free-plugin side, ZL Audio put out a dynamic spectrum EQ and Shadaloo Audio released a free vocal compressor - both worth downloading just to A/B against whatever's already in your chain. Free doesn't always mean lesser anymore; a lot of these smaller devs are shipping tools that genuinely compete with paid options.

What I'm actually running right now

I've been leaning on FM8 for sub-layer harmonics under my 808s lately - a touch of a sine-heavy FM patch blended in under the main bass gives it more presence on small speakers without pushing the fundamental louder. Small move, noticeable difference.
