New Producer Drops: Plugins, Gear & DAW Updates
Reason Studios put out Reason Free, a permanent no-cost version that loads 15 classic Reason devices into your DAW as VST, AU, or AAX. You get the Subtractor synth, the Kong drum designer, and a handful of the rack mixing and effects units, all running inside FL Studio, Ableton, or Logic. Reason's rack has a specific character, a little gritty and hardware-flavored, and getting that for free with no expiration date is a real one for anyone stocking a template with free plugins for producers.
W.A. Production's Presser is free through September 6 with the code TBC100, normally around 30 dollars. It is a creative compressor built more for movement than for clean gain control, with a wet-dry blend so you can slam it and dial the pain back. Working out of my Knoxville room I would run it on a drum bus in parallel to get some pump without flattening the transients. Free compressors that actually have a personality are worth grabbing while the window is open.
CVA Labs released Aether, a free open-source stereo exciter for macOS and Windows with independent left and right channels and controls for Drive, Frequency, Contour, and Air. Stereo exciters are easy to overdo, but used lightly on a synth bus or a master they add the top-end sparkle that makes a mix feel finished. Open source means it is not going to vanish behind a paywall or an account wall later, and that alone earns it a slot in the chain.
What I'm actually running right now: for beats I still start in FL Studio with a stock kit and Fruity Limiter on the master just to hear levels, then swap in real samples once the groove locks.
