New Producer Drops: Plugins, Gear & DAW Updates
Ronald Klarenbeek released WetEQ and WetCompressor, two free and open-source analog-style plugins for macOS, Windows, and Linux. They follow WetDelay and WetReverb from earlier this year, and the whole line runs on the same idea: simple controls, a bit of built-in color, nothing to configure. Free and cross-platform with a real Linux build is rare, and open source means they will not vanish behind an account wall later. Easy to drop on a bus and hear whether the character fits your beat.
Bitwig Studio 6.1 shipped with what the company is calling a radically updated Sampler device. The new version pulls in more of the modern sampler feature set, with tighter slicing and modulation baked into the instrument instead of bolted on. If you already live in Bitwig, this is a free point update worth grabbing. If you do not, it is another sign that stock samplers are closing the gap on dedicated tools, which is good news for anyone building beats from chops.
Schallenberg Engineering put out Collision: Bongos, a free bongo library for the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt. It is compact, around 268 MB, and aimed at real percussion layering rather than a giant multisample dump. Working out of my Knoxville room I would slide something like this under trap hats to add a little hand-percussion movement, low in the mix, just enough to make a loop feel played instead of programmed. It needs full Kontakt, not the free Player.
What I'm actually running right now: for beats I still start in FL Studio with a stock kit, lock the groove, then swap in real samples and percussion once it feels right. Worth downloading this week: grab WetEQ and WetCompressor first since they are free and permanent, then pull Collision: Bongos if you own full Kontakt. Bitwig 6.1 is an easy call if you already run it. That is a solid free week, mostly analog-flavored color tools and percussion, and none of it costs a thing.
